Warmer weather is coming and it’s time to change things up. Just as we put away our heavy coats and jackets and grab light denim to wear instead, our skincare routine also needs to be adjusted to suit our needs. While you don’t have to just throw out every product you own and buy a new one, there are some things you can do to make sure your skin is getting all the nourishment it needs as you slowly prepare it for the summer heat. To help you get that radiance back and teach you a few useful tricks, read on!

Up that SPF

While you could get away with 15 and 20 SPF sunscreen in winter, now it’s time to bring out the big guns again. Using sunscreen is the first thing you need to focus on because the closer summer gets, the bigger the UV damage to our skin. You don’t want wrinkles and hyper pigmentation (not to mention cancer) do you? Then protect your skin with SPF 30, or higher.

Full-body exfoliation

There is a buildup of dead skin cells and dirt over winter, and it’s time to get rid of it. We recommend that you try dry brushing for your whole body, or make a DIY coffee scrub to use while you’re in the shower. For your face, you can make a sugar scrub by mixing some brown sugar with honey and a touch of olive oil, or buy something like St. Ives Apricot Scrub. Remember to always exfoliate in the evening so you wouldn’t expose your sensitive skin to the sun!

Grab a lighter moisturizer

Heavy creams are necessary during winter because they create a protective barrier over our skin and keep it safe from the cold. However, spring and summer are different, and our skin now needs to breathe so gel-based moisturizers and water-based serums are now more appropriate. The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel is a great, inexpensive choice that will feel light and airy on your skin.

Avoid heavy foundations

It’s perfectly fine to wear heavier foundations in the evening when it’s cool, but when the sun is staring at you during the day, you might wish to opt for a BB cream or a tinted moisturizer to even out your skin tone. Wearing heavy makeup for a long time can clog our pores, and if you keep sweating then there’s a big chance that it will all just melt away from your face. If you really need a way to make your foundation sweat-proof, we recommend using a translucent powder to set it in place, and then a setting spray (Urban Decay All Nighter is pretty great), that will keep it from budging.

Visit a skin clinic

Now’s the perfect time to visit a clinic for some professional pampering. It’s much better to do these treatments during spring and welcome the bathing-suit season ready, especially if you want to remove your stretch marks or do a simple face lift in order to look plump and youthful. Find a trustworthy skin care clinic** and treat yourself to some beauty procedures to boost your confidence. There’s just something about these treatments that makes us feel transformed and reborn, so enjoy the feeling.

Tricks to deal with sweat

While there are many great things about hot weather, sweating is definitely not one of them. Sweat clogs our pores and causes breakouts if we aren’t careful, so it’s very important to maintain good hygiene – take regular showers, wash your face every day, and wear light, breathable materials. You should also keep some oil-blotting sheets in your purse for when you’re on the go, and use face mists or thermal water to refresh your face and soothe irritations.

Wear a hat

Hats are totally underestimated! Along with sunglasses, they are the perfect protection against the sun, but they also help us avoid constant squinting from the glare that is one of the major causes of crow’s feet and undereye wrinkles. These are the perfect accessories for spring and summer, so find a way to style them with your outfit and let them protect you!

Are you excited about the nice weather? Be gentle with your skincare, stay consistent, and you’ll enjoy a wonderful, natural glow that will make you look fresh.
