I really wanted to start “giving back” this year, and during my research, I came upon Back on My Feet (BoMF). I wanted to have more human interaction than stuffing envelopes or other logistical duties, but I wasn’t looking for a counseling-type position either. BoMF is perfect for me. I get to share my love of fitness and how my fitness journey has enhanced my life while cheering on other team members. Character strengthening, perspective enforcing, and nourishment for my soul are the rewarding forces that pull me out of bed even on the darkest and coldest of winter days and the hottest, muggiest of summer days.

The amount of time required has been perfect for me as well. I have been volunteering with BoMF since January and in that time, I have been able to fit it all in… I got married in the middle of May, competed in April, work full time, and commute 2.5 hours (total) each day for work, so my free time is limited. I meet with the BoMF team once per week and spent last Sunday morning supporting one of the resident team members during her very first 5K. It is pretty amazing to see someone who went from living on the street to completing their first race.

BoMF is currently operating in Philadelphia, Baltimore, D.C., Boston, Dallas, Chicago, and Indianapolis. I can’t say enough great things about this organization and how much I enjoy being a part of such a supportive team. Everyone needs a cheerleader, and I finally found a place where my 5:30am energy is much appreciated.
