Why Squat Challenges Don’t Work

Squat ChallengeI was recently asked about a squat challenge. I found the perfect explanation of why I never recommend this. http://m.huffpost.com/ca/entry/3661649

This goes for most things I see on social media when it comes to fitness and nutrition. Most fitness tips on social media are over simplified and taken out of context.

I remember when the coach I had 10 years ago would tell us to stay away from things we read on the internet. To stay the course and follow her advice (which was always simple and focused on the basics). I did what she asked because I was a good little soldier like that and I trusted her. It wasn’t until several years later that all of this “stuff” became so clear to me.

Now, I experience it now as a coach.

Some of my toughest clients are the ones who are the “most educated”. They have been reading the magazines, blogs, etc. for YEARS and have consumed all of these tips. They have a hard time of letting go of that information.

  • They are afraid to eat bananas because they once read they were higher in sugar.
  • They have an underlying belief system that tells them “more is better” and that they must workout 5, 6 or 7 days per week to get anywhere close to their goals.
  • They hire me to coach them, but then end up reverting back to all the things they were doing before they hired me because those tid bits of information online are so shiny and enticing.

“If I just…” they think.

My most successful clients.

My most successful clients are the ones who follow the training plan laid out for them, use the meal guide they received with their membership, and ask me questions about the things they see online if they think it is worth looking into.

These successful clients also get messages from the clients who are struggling asking, “so, what are you really doing?” The answer from the successful client is always the same… “I’m just doing what Stephanie has been telling us to do.”

There is no secret back door.

There is only consistently doing the work that has been laid out for them.

Whether you are currently working with me or not, my advice is the same: MEDIA LITERACY has never been more important.

I watch people get tripped up in it daily.

Everything from health to business to money to relationships.

There are “experts” everywhere, and for anyone who works in any of these fields, we can tell you that most of those “experts” are nothing more than people trying to figure it out for themselves which is fine, BUT they are sweeping others up and taking them along for the bumpy ride of self-discovery when they should be doing their homework on their own before attempting to influence others to follow them.

Back to this fitness and health information.

There is an over abundance of information out there and some of it is good, but most of it is garbage and half truths.

Find true experts in your field of interest. Cut out the rest of the chatter. You will actually reach your goals when you remove the excess.

If you are an SKFitLife member and someone tells you to do something or you see something out there please feel free to ask me about it. You won’t look silly believe me… There are “trained professionals” who know more than you and get swept up in the media madness.

Besides the group support for accountability, being an SKFitLife member gives you access to programmed workouts that can’t be found on some Pinterest board.

Members also get the benefit of my 20+ years of fitness experience. Yes, I started researching, learning, and experimenting on myself when I was 13 years old. I spent nearly a decade as an endurance athlete before becoming an international-level physique competitor and competitive fitness coach. I have done my homework and then some. I want my clients to be successful in the long term, and the best way for that to happen is to continue to learn and grow.

SKFitLife Members: I honestly don’t have my finger on the pulse of the social media world for fitness because it drives me insane to watch such bad information being shared. I would never get any work done if I sat here and addressed all the crazy stuff I see😜, but I WILL answer questions you have about the stuff you want to know about.

Again, NO JUDGEMENT on your questions. I will give you my honest assessment and will probably learn something in the process myself.

This question-answering service is open to current members only. If you are interested in working with me and becoming an SKFitLife Member, all coaching packages can be found HERE.

Final words of wisdom: guard your mind with your life because your life and the quality of your life depends on it.
