This is a message I received from one of my online fitness challenge clients. I love how she shared how she broke the cycle of quitting on her commitment to working out.

Sometimes a perfectionist mindset can really get in the way of making any sort of progress. Make changes where you can make them and watch the positive ripple effect happen right in front of your eyes.

“I’ve been wanting to post an update but didn’t want to jinx myself. As usual, I fell off the wagon. It’s a pretty common occurrence for me. That being said, I made a decision last week: to start commuting to work by bicycle.

It’s amazing the effect that one small, but significant decision can make.

In order for me to commute to work on my bike, I have to prep my gym bag and meals the night before. Since I can’t drive to a restaurant for lunch, I have to bring my lunch.

Since I have to get up early to ride to work, I actually end up having some extra time to squeeze in a quick workout before jumping in the shower. I managed to do all 4 of my lifting workouts and 1 HIIT workout last week (1 each day).

I feel a lot better during the day at work, much more motivated, and I have a lot more energy now (the first few days I will admit I was exhausted).

Plus, the ride home gives me time to decompress from the day, so I’m ready to make dinner and get things done around the house as soon as I get home. Oh, and I am a lot more patient with my family now. Before I felt like a ticking time bomb, ready to blow up at them at any moment.

So yeah, I did pretty darn good last week (I restarted the month one, week one of the advanced training), and I’m off to a pretty darn good start this week as well.

Oh, and did I mention I’m making healthier choices when I eat too? It just seems like the right thing to do in the moment. Except on weekends, the weekend was a disaster. That’s still a work in progress. Lol.”
